A little insight about the goals one sets in this popular MMORPG.
Hello there. Most of you gamers out there have probably heard the name “Runescape” once or twice in your Internet life. It’s a very popular MMORPG, that runs directly on your browser, yet has very good game-play and graphics.
So, the first thing I get asked when I speak to someone about Runescape is “What is the game’s goal?”
This question has no easy answer. Basically, in Runescape you set your own goals. It’s not a straightforward game, where you just “beat it” and it’s done. It is a massive world in constant expansion (every week a new update comes) where you can be and do whatever you want. The thing is, you can’t be the best in everything, unless you spend years on it. So the way it usually goes is, goals differ depending on the person.
One might want to reach max level in a certain skill. Or two… Or just have fun playing in-game activities. In my personal case, current goal is completing all the quests. But the goal possibilities are endless. There are even those who set out to reach the Completitionist cape, which is fiendishly hard to obtain.
It’s the freedom of choice that, in my opinion, makes this game world so attractive. That and the constant expansion and evolution.
So if there are any Runescape players out there, reading this, I leave with the question. What are your goals? What gets you going in the world of Gielinor?
