The Fighting Triangle
In this guide, I’m going to cover some of the basics in RuneScape, such as the fighting triangle.
The fighting triangle
For those of you who don’t know, the fighting triangle is the reason why runescape is still around today. Without this, the game would be unfair and not worth playing. So basically, magic beats melee, melee beats range, and range beats magic. Correct me if I’m wrong. So think of it like rock, paper scissor; rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper, and paper beats rock.
Money, money and money!
If you’ve read my other guides, you know that you need money in order to train a lot of your skills. I’m only going to cover the non-member skills which are wood cutting, fishing, mining, smithing, runecrafting, cooking and crafting.
I’ll be honest with you, I don’t know much about runecrafting, cooking or crafting, but I do know that it doesn’t give you a lot of money.
So, wood cutting: Get all axes up to rune. Train on normal trees to the East of Varrock, until your wood cutting is level 15. At this same place, there are Oak trees. There are two other reasons for training here, one because it’s not busy, and two, it’s very near a bank. I suggest training your wood cutting until you can use a rune axe (level 41 wood cutting). After that, you can go on to willows. If you go straight on to willows when you are level 30 wood cutting, you will cut very slowly, and will become bored. So, wait till you’ve level 41 wood cutting, and then go to Port Sarim. Unless you want competition, don’t go to Draynor Village, instead, go to the South of Port Sarim. Here, you will find 20 willows and there won’t be anyone there. The downside of this, is that you have to keep dropping the logs (willow logs don’t sell), but the upside is that you don’t get distracted, and you won’t have any competition. Train on willows until you are level 65, for the same reason as waiting till you have level 41 wood cutting to cut willows. If you go straight to yew, you will be too slow and won’t be able to compete with the higher levelled wood cutters.
Fishing: Very easy. Go to the South of Lumbridge, and pick up one of the fishing nets. Catch shrimps until you have level 5 fishing. Then go Draynor Village and fish and bank until you have level 25 fishing. Then go back to Lumbridge and fish pike in the river until you can catch trout. Then go up to the Barbarian Village and catch trout until you can catch salmon. (You can also chose to cook the fish during this time, if you want.) Stay there until you can catch lobsters, then go to Karajama and catch lobsters, and so on…
Mining and smithing: These two can be linked. However, if you just want to mine that is okay. Get all pickaxes up to rune, and go to the south of Lumbridge and mine tin until you have level 15 mining. After that, go to the South of Falador and mine iron until you have level 40 mining. I would suggest mining iron until you have at least level 60 mining, but it’s up to you. If you don’t want to do this, then go and mine coal. You can find coal either in the wilderness to the south-west of Lumbridge. When you get to level 60, start mining mithril. Keep mining until you have a high enough level to mine rune. Then you will be rich. If you want to do smithing, then you will need a hammer, and somewhere to smelt ore into bars. This can take a long time, but eventually, you will be able to make rune armour, and you will then be a millionaire.
