The Perfect F2P Strength Pure
A great guide for Runescape players.
EDIT (7/6/10): This guide is long outdated. I’m currently in the process of modernizing this guide.
Step 1: Getting a Name
Welcome to Runescape! Let’s start off like every other guide out there, by selecting your name. Try not to make it obvious that you’re a strength pure. Pick something that makes you look like an inexperienced player, like Ph33r M3, which makes you look like a 1337speaking noob. Stay off the track of names like Def1 Str99 or Xx Str Pur3 xX. This intimidates others and encourages them to check your hiscores, making you a stain on the carpet.
Step 2: Tutorial Island
After choosing your name, it’s time to run through Tutorial Island. Try to go through the island as quickly as possible, stopping to get 3 woodcutting, fire making, fishing and cooking to make food (this will be explained later on). Once you get to the Mining Instructor, train your mining and smithing (optional) to 3 (will also be explained later on). Train your attack and strength to 3 as well. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT train your defense or you will be a stain on the carpet.
The objective of a pure is to keep your combat level low while training your combat stats high enough to kill with ease. Don’t train your ranging or magic unless you’re trying to make a hybrid. When you’ve finally hit a chicken with your magic, talk to the Magic Instructor to be teleported to Lumbridge.
Step 3: Funding Your Pure
Unless you’re hoping to be banned or want to risk it, DO NOT transfer anything from another account. Instead, sell all your stuff from Tutorial Island EXCEPT for your pickaxe and bronze axe. You have two choices here: chop trees or mine ore.
Route A: Cutting Trees
If you’re going to chop trees, just chop normal trees until level 15, saving all your logs, then chop oaks, stopping at 21 and selling your normal logs to buy a mithril axe. Repeat this until level 31, again saving all your logs. Sell all your logs to buy an addy axe, then cut willows. Repeat until level 41, using the method I described to buy a rune axe. From here, just chop willows until level 60. Cut yews and sell all of your logs until you hit about 500k.
Route B: Mining Ore
This is a variation of Route A. Mine bronze and copper until level 15, then mine iron until 31. Buy an addy pick, then mine iron until 41 and buy a rune pickaxe. Start mining coal and get 500k.
Step 4: Training
This is the focus of the entire guide. Buy a full set of iron and every scimitar from iron to mithril from Zeke in Al-Kharid, then addy and rune from players. Wield an iron scimitar and kill cows until your attack is 5. Wield a steel scimitar on aggressive mode and train on cows until your strength is 10. Now it’s time to move up to mithril, so be patient. Train your attack to 20 on barbarians, then wield your mithril scimitar and train your strength to 40 on hill giants. Train your attack to 30 on guards to wield an addy scimitar, then train your strength to 60 on jail guards. Now train your attack to 40 and rejoice, for you’ve finally reached a midway point. But don’t celebrate, because now it’s time to train your strength to 99.
This next part requires a bit more thinking on your part. Throw on full iron and a rune scimitar. Now you can either go to the Moss giants in the Varrock sewers or the Lesser Demons by the wilderness. If you’re money-conscious, save some food and head for the giants. Otherwise, prepare some high-healing foods (lobsters, swordfish) and head to Varrock. Follow the path by the east bank through the wilderness to the lava maze, and start fighting. Remember to run and log when you see someone approaching on your mini-map.
Now that your strength is 99, cheer and celebrate. Happy PKing!
