What is a RuneScape Private Server?

A Runescape private server is a hacked version of Runescape.  Someone has stolen Runescape’s source code, or got it from another illegal site or private server.  In most private servers you can level up a lot faster than in normal Runescape, and this is the reason a lot of people use them.  Plus, in most private servers there are no or not many rules, and there is no chat filter.  I have tried a private server once, and as soon as I logged in someone said “You should have sex with Ashley” to me.

On a lot of private servers you can buy membership, much like Runescape membership.  But the only benefit you get from this membership is that you can level up something like three times faster than on the normal private server.  Private servers tend to copy the Runescape website, they tend to be in low detail and there is no HD option, and most of them are covered in way to many ads.
