William’s Guide to RuneScape

This guide will definitely help anybody who is lacking confidence in any part of the game!

To start, how about we divide the people who want to pay to play this game, and the people who want to play for free. This is distinguishing “f2p” from “p2p”. It is not quite a hefty price, but it means your parents or you have to save a little income for it. Close to 80-90 dollars a year off the top of my head. Consider the benefits in one of my other articles of this MMO and make sure you ask your parents if they’re willing to pay small fees each month for you to play. If you’re making your own income then it’s entirely up to you! I advise you try the tutorial out first, to get a very basic idea!

Once you’ve figured out which way you’re going to go, start by making a character! On the website (http://www.runescape.com/) put your mouse cursor over “Play now” in the navigation bar around the top-middle of your screen. Wait for the menu to pop down for your options. If this is your first time playing, please select New Players. From here, please answer each question required by Jagex to make your account. Also, know that your account does NOT belong to you. It’s Jagex’s and you have no right to “sell” or “distribute” accounts. Follow their rules.

After creating your account, you’re ready to play! From now on make sure you click “Free” or “Member” depending on which path you chose in the begining of this guide. If you’re unsuscribed please click Free of course. Members pay. Now you’ll have to be patient and let the game start up, and enter your account information to start. As soon as you’re logged in, the fun can begin.

The first thing you’ll notice is that your screen will have loads of different buttons and such to choose from. EVERYTHING will be explained. All you have to do is read everything the tutorial says CAREFULLY. It will guide you through making your character first, then how to speak. Wood cutting, stats, fishing, cooking, and other cooking. From there, you get the general idea of how this tutorial island works and you can finish it on your own (or you really have problems problem-solving).

Once you’re done, you are prompted to enter the real world provided you are given some Runes. Runes, are for magic but don’t really care much about this small incentive. Now is the time we figure out what you would like to do from here now:

You can be a melee, mage, or ranged fighter depending on your preferances. Now, for beginners I definitely recommend melee because it is very simple and you either can fight it or you can’t. Just click the npc to fight, it’s so easy isn’t it? Now, you already know how to train because of the tutorial but let’s go a little into how it works.

Each point of damage you do gives you expierience for your combat. For mage, you also get a bonus for the spell being successful. Melee fighters have different options to train with. They can either put Attack, Strength or Defense in the “Specialized” mode where it gaines 4 exp per damage point, or all four stats (including Health) gained 1 1/3 of a point each hit. Health always has 1 1/3 so don’t worry about it.

For beginners I reccomend Goblins for any combat style. I truly believe you should only be attacking things you can CONSISTANTLY take down in 2-4 hits and stay alive without consuming food to regain health. That way, you’re hitting your maximum damage at times and killing the monsters fast. However, you might not know where to look which brings us to our next part.

Get familiar with your MMO world. Open the map and look at everything. Figure out what the Atlas means and keep track of landmarks and how to figure out where you are in the world, because everyone gets lost and has to look at the map eventually. Why not now?

There is an item at the general store that is a map of the “Free” area. Take this if you’re new because you’ll be in the Free area for a bit!

Now, here’s how I trained two characters just to make sure it was consistant.

Day 1: Fight Goblins until 30 combat.

Day 2-3?: Fight Dwarves until level 50+

I got this all done, with a lot of hard work but if you’re willing (or paying) you should be just as dedicated! Now start killing. DON’T BURY BONES UNLESS YOU ARE REALLY INTERESTED IN LEVELING PRAYER.

Prayer is a desperation stat at first, but once you get to the 40-50’s some things start to really help like protection from any of the three combat styles. The thing about prayer is the bones can easily be bought on the market, though expensive, can easily be burried in masses for leveling. Don’t spend time burrying when you could be LEVELING your combat faster!

The market? Yeah, you heard that didn’t you? The game has one big database that connects each and every character’s buy and sell offers and runs a lot like the stock market and basic economics. The more buyers, the higher the price and vice versa. You can make LOADS of money off the market but we’ll disscuss money later! For now, you may want to look at what’s up and down and keep note of RAW MATIERIALS that are going DOWN.

Now that you’re getting higher level you might want some new equipment! This is where we want some cash!!

Did you see any ore’s on the “up” trend? GOOD! That means you can mine these ores and sell them on the market for the highest price and get paid almost instantly! Hopefully you paid attention in the mining tutorial! However, if this is not the case and there is no ores available take up woodcutting in Draynor. There are plenty of trees and some oaks next to the bank for easy transition. Logs and Oak Logs sell easily on the market so take advantage while you still can!

Try and make 100,000 gold coins (gp) or 100k. From here, figure out the best equipment you can buy and make a journey to the Grand Exchange! This is just west of VARROCK. Check your map, and once you get there take the tutorial and read it carefully to learn things I haven’t covered. I didn’t cover them because I want you to get into the habbit of READING DIRECTIONS. It pays off A LOT.

After getting restocked you can continue getting combat levels, but once you get to level 60-70 you might want to stop and take a deep breath! You’re almost halfway done with combat leveling and you just STARTED! What else is there?! Well, how about QUESTS?

Quests and missions that all players can do by engaging with proper NPC’s. Most of them want you to utilize your ability to do things, like problem solve, or kill creatures. You’ll be awared usually with items, or expierience in whatever you used. Each quest gives a QUEST POINT(s). This does a few useful things like:

Give a bigger trade limite between players
Unlock Quests
Let you show off

So start questing! Because the Rune armor, is amazing but you can only wear it if you complete the hardest Free quest there is, Dragon Slayer.

For quest guides please go to a website that offers all of them. I’m not going to waste my time writing what’s already easy to access over the web!

What next? Well! You can continue to make money, raise your combat, or quest more! It’s entirely up to you but Members can engage in fun and rewarding minigames, have an easier expierience with Clans and much much more! If you would like to ask me a question no website can answer, please email me
