Newbie Tips in Tradewars

Reminding players that they play against mammals not machines.

Trade wars is a Multi-Player Game. This means you play against other Mammals. You are not playing against a machine. You can not win if you are the only player in a game.

Empty games can be used for strategy, but you are NOT playing Tradewars when you play alone. Most players “browse” games. They’ll join ten games and at the end of the round, maybe log back on to two.

Although their nick might be listed as a player until inaction has them kicked, they are not playing.

They might have been turned off by the configuration of the game; too few trading ports, invincible Ferrangi, or, as is more usual, other players. For example, Fig Fogging is one of those ancient strategies which virtually says; “Don”t Play here!’ Fig Fogging is when a player leaves Fighters in just about every sector he visits. The fighters might be begging Tolls, or might be Defensive, but are a pain in the butt. If a player starts this foolishness deep in mid game or at end game, blowing the figs becomes knee jerk. If it happens in Early game, why bother? Log off and stay off.

Another way to insure you play alone is to blow other players in the first week of a game. Most consider this a “sign” they were not meant to play here.

That most games allow a player to have three or more lives might be of use to them late in the game. But within the first week most don’t have a “stake” in the game, so don’t bother to check how many “lives” they have left. If they log on to find that last session they were blown up or their just created planet was captured, they disconnect.

In Tradewars you can not chase away players. When you are the only one playing, there is no Game.

Further, if you do this a lot, the sysop might just lock you out, as you not being there is an invitation to others.

These sound great for game players. My grandsons would probably know them all.
