Section 1-1

Starting the game.

Insert the Pokemon Platinum Version game card into Slot 1 of your Nintendo DS. Turn on the power and touch the icon that says “Pokemon Platinum Version Nintendo”.

A screen that says the Nintendo and Gamefreak copyrights will come up. Then, a screen like this should come up.

The Pokemon Platinum Version main title screen.

HOW TO SAVE

You can save anytime during gameplay, except when you are in a battle or in a contest. Press the X button, scroll down to SAVE, and press A.

Press START or the A button to continue. You will then see Professor Rowan, who will ask you if you need to know anything about the game (controls, what to do etc.).

When you have finished reading, continue, and you will be asked which gender you are. Then Professor Rowan will ask you for your name. I recommend you put your own gender and name, because you can’t change them later in the game.

Then he will introduce you to your “Childhood Friend”. He will appear many times throughout the game, asking for Pokemon battles, giving you advice, and so on.

You will then be shrunk down to the normal play size, and will be transfered to your own room. You will be watching the TV.

Watching the TV.

When you move one step, your rival will come running up the stairs. He will tell you that he thinks you can get some Pokemon from Professor Rowan, who had just been on TV.

After your rival leaves, go downstairs. Your mother will come and talk to you. Go to your rival’s house, which is located north-west from your own.

Go to the door and go in. THUD. Your rival will bump into you and push you back. He will attempt to go ahead, but will say he forgot something, and run back inside. Now you can go in, too.

Once you get into the house, go up the stairs, and your rival will be at his computer. He will be checking to make sure he has everything. When he notices you are there, he will come running, and say that he will fine you if you’re late. Then he will run down the stairs. Pretty impatient.

Now, finally, you can leave Twinleaf Town. Get out of your rival’s house, and head north. Your rival will be waiting for you, just like he said, on the road. He will take you to the edge of the tall grass, and will tel you that you could scoot over to the next patch of grass before any wild Pokemon jump out. He will run at the tall grass, when…

It’s Professor Rowan! He will stop your rival from running into the tall grass. He will think to himself for a bit, and then will come back. He will ask you if you truly love Pokemon. Even if you choose NO, the Professor will ask you again, so just choose YES. He will ask you a second time. Your rival will tell the Professor that you will answer a hundred times, because you love Pokemon.

Professor Rowan will then call you a pair of reckless kids who foolishly try to enter tall grass without Pokemon of your own. Your rival will then tell the Professor that he doesn’t have to get Pokemon,  but to give one to you.

Professor Rowan will then give each of you a Pokemon of your very own. You will get to choose first, your rival will choose second and will get the Pokemon whose type is stronger to yours. For example, if you choose Piplup, your rival will choose Turtwig. In this walkthrough, I will be using Piplup.

Now that you’ve both chosen Pokemon, your rival will come up to you and challenge you to a battle. When he asks you, you will have to choose YES because the same as before, he will just keep asking you.

This is your first battle! Your Pokemon will have to learned moves, in Piplup’s case, “Pound” and “Growl”. Turtwig will have “Tackle” and “Withdraw”. Chimrar will have “Scratch” and “Leer”. Try your best to win; if you lose, you will have to pay 600 Pokedollars. When you finish the battle, you will go back home and talk to your mother. “What’s the matter, dear?” “Wow. That’s what happened.” She will say that she is glad for you to have met Professor Rowan, and will tell you to go and properly thank him. Then She will give you a pair of Running Shoes. If you hold down the B button while walking, you can run!

Head north again, and your rival will be waiting at the road. He will tell you that he wants to thank Professor Rowan properly, and that he wants to catch the legendary Pokemon that lives at the lake near your house. When your rival has finished talking, go west and then north. There will be an opening in the forest. When you walk in there will be someone there… A mysterious someone.

After the man leaves, you will hear a Pokemon’s cry. You and your rival want to catch it, but then your rival realizes that you don’t have any Pokeballs. He says that Professor Rowan would probably give you some if you asked for them. He says he will race you to the Lab in Sandgem Town.

Go back south out the exit, and head east. There are some patches of tall grass; if you run through them, only about 2 or 3 wild Pokemon will appear. At the second patch of grass, you should talk to the person that is standing in the north-west part of it. The person will give you a free Potion. Potions can be used during or outside of battle to heal a Pokemon’s health up to 20 points.

Now head east, where Dawn/Lucas will be waiting for you. He/she will guide you to the Lab, where your rival will come running out. Dawn/Lucas will then lead you into the Lab. Professor Rowan will examine your Pokemon, and will conclude that it seems rather happy. He will ask you to travel around the Sinnoh region and collect data of Pokemon using a Pokedex. Again, you will have to say YES, because, again, he will keep asking you if you don’t.

Once you answer YES, Professor Rowan will give you a Pokedex. It will record the data of any wild Pokemon encountered, as well as other trainer’s Pokemon automatically.
