Reasons Why Red Dead Redemption is One of The Best Games of This Generation – Part One

It’s widely accepted that this open-world western game was one of the best games to come out, but not many think it was good enough to be considered one of the best of this current generation. Here is a possible series of reasons why I think it is (probable spoilers ahead):

POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING!!!!

  1. The World:

Red dead Redemption’s setting spans two contrasting countries, three fictitious states and multiple towns and villages without even one of these areas feeling as though it was created in a studio. Each different place has its own specific aura, political opinion, speciality and there is always something more to discover there. Exploration is encouraged and rewarded with no two places looking or feeling the same, making it impossible to “just pass through” anywhere without stopping to find something out from the locals or buy that particular gun that you’ve been saving up for.

The constantly cycling weather is a thing of beauty; from gloriously sunny days to torrential storms with only the moon to guide John and his horse. Mother Nature’s harsh effects aren’t merely superficial either, there’s one mission where you have to herd cattle during a storm and with every lightning strike they stampede making your job just that much harder.

As it should the wildlife feels natural and alive, eerie at times and comforting at others. From rabbits to grizzly bears many of the endless list of animals feel as much of a danger to John as he is to them, with there being few more thrilling and satisfying experiences in this game than fending off a group of cougars as they charge you, thirsty for blood.

Interactive is the most suitable way to describe the remarkable world of this game but even that hardly does it justice. With the end of the story you would think that would be your cowboy hat hung up and your boots packed away but the possibilities are practically endless with Red Dead. Where many other games would have you exiting to the menu screen and ejecting the disc this one lets you keep going and rewards you for doing so.

Thank you for reading. If you enjoyed this and would like to read more of these reason then be sure to comment and like.
