Recruiting Dog in Dragon Age: Origins (PS3, Xbox 360, Pc)
Everybody loves having a furry companion. But how do you find one that can tear through legions of Darkspawn?
Dog is a close companion to the Warden in Dragon Age, and though he loses his groove a bit by the end of the game he’s consistently useful as a frontline soldier. You have to find him before you can use him, though, and there are two ways or doing so.
The first is to simply start the game as a human noble. Do that and Dog will pop up in the kitchens of Highever, hunting giant rats. Once you help him dispose of said rats he’ll join your team for the rest of the game. Simple.
Otherwise you face a slightly more daunting task. Once you reach Ostagar, immediately after your origin story, head to the Kennel Master in the southeast part of camp. One of his Mabari (Dog, of course) is sick from Darkspawn blood, and he can only heal the pooch with a flower from the Korcari Wilds. He’ll ask you to retrieve it.
Go out into the Wilds to fetch Darkspawn blood and the treaties and look on the banks of the river, just to the south of where you start. You’ll find the flower you need growing there. Take this back to the Kennel Master once you’re done with the Wilds.
After Ostagar you’ll be forced to leave the area and go to Lothering. As you’re heading there Dog will show up, followed by Darkspawn. Kill them and accept him into the group and he’s yours for good.
