Animal Crossing Fishing
An expository Essay I wrote for my 9th Grade English Class.
A cool, Spring Morning. A Fishing Pole. Some Patience. It only takes a few things to experience the one skill that is easy to learn, makes money, and becomes entertaining.
Fishing is the easiest and most straightforward activity to learn in Animal Crossing. To begin one’s fishing experience; buy a fishing rod from Tom Nook’s Shop for a meager 500 bells. Before beginning to fish, one must learn its rules, benefits, and dangers. The largest rule of fishing is: A fish’s Shadow must be visible in order to catch it. Another very important rule is to only walk when near water. Running near a fish’s shadow will scare fish back down to the depths of its habitat, making it impossible to catch it again for quite some time. A fish can only nibble your bobber four times before it has to bite it, so it may be a good idea to count until it actually bites. Many expert fisher folk have discovered trends in biting patterns within families of fish. Many of them can predict the fish they catch before it is actually identified! There are many dangers while fishing, the biggest being bitten by a mosquito or hooking trash that was previously dumped into the water. Most beginning anglers don’t have to worry about many of these dangers, as they aren’t experienced enough to make speed money runs or have to worry about catching large fish.
The biggest benefit of choosing to learn fishing is the near immediate revenue. Fishing makes the bells stack up in the bank faster than any other non-hacking method. For comparison, the rarest bug in Animal Crossing is worth only 12,000 bells, whereas there are scores of fish that are worth 15,000 bells, and are much more common. The best way to make money in Animal Crossing is to make Coelacanth Runs. By catching over 30 of these fish at a time, then storing them in your basement, you can make over 750,000 bells in only a few hours. The only time that these mysterious fish are catchable is around midnight and when water is pouring from the sky. The best time to catch them is around midnight, making it unfeasible to sell them directly. The final payment on your house is 800,000 bells, which makes one minimum run worth almost enough to pay it all off. The Golden Rod, which attracts fish faster, makes catching them even easier.
Overall, there are over 50 kinds of fish to catch, ranging from the extremely rare Arapaima to the all-too-common Sea Bass. Depending on the season, time, and location, you can catch different types of fish. The most used fishing location is the River. With over 30 fish to offer, it makes the perfect spot for someone who finds joy in a large variety of fish. The second largest spot, with only 15 fish is the ocean. Many of the rarest fish in the game drift in on the tides to feed at night. The Ocean is a spot for thrill seeking fishermen who love the struggle of reeling in the true giants of the water. The pond is a place for easy-going fishermen who are content with catching frogs and crawfish, while many others love the slow rumble of water careening over the edge of a high cliff, striking a basin of cool, mountain water. Here is where the goliaths of the rivers dwell. Many fish can only be caught in a certain area, due to the large environmental differences, but there are a lot of places where there is overlap. The type of fish also depends on the time. During the day, the smaller fish come up to the surface to leap in the sun’s rays. But when the sun sets, the giants drift out of the reeds to hunt their smaller sleeping brethren.
Fishing is one of the most significant things in Animal Crossing. Of all of the skills, Fishing is the only one that can prove that it is by far the best. It takes minutes to learn, hours to make money, and months to catch every fish. The most important thing about fishing is having a good time, so enjoying your fishing experience is priority number one. So just keep fishing!
