E3: Games and Hardware to Look for
This time next week we will be neck-deep in all the latest game announcements, hardware teasesand excitement galore that surrounds the biggest gaming expo in the country. There is a lotto look forward to and without some focal points one could easily become overloaded with the rush of information. So here are a few topics which should draw a lot of interest as E3 starts for this year.
Wii U There are a number of rumors circulating Nintendo’s upcoming system, and the big question is when it will be released. Amazon has a space which lists some specifications for the new consoleand allows you to have the site notify you when it is available for ordering via Amazon. The new controller is still an interesting subject as it will be somewhat of a tablet/controller hybrid. It has alot of potential but given Nintendo’s track record with thirdparty games and poor ports, will it be worth the upgrade? Next week some solidify some information (and possibly a release date) and maybe provide more insight as to price points onthe HD remake of their once popular console.
PS4 or Xbox 720
These two rumor mill enriched monstrosities have sparked more than a modest amount of interestfrom fans. Neither company has confirmed specifications let alone potential release dates. That hasn’t stopped rumors from flying all over the place and speculation from running amok interms of either systems. One thing that seems to be a common rumor is that the used game market is in serious trouble;a common theme seems to be circulating around DRM which will lock a user’s copy of their game to their system. Then you have rumors of Sony supposedly purchasing either Onlive or Gaikai, online streaming game services (ala Netflix but for video games). What this points to is a huge change of pace in promoting digital downloads of games as opposed to hard copies.There’s a large amount of issues this could cause if this is true but until anything solid is presented (like possibly next week) there is no reason to worry.
PC
Being a PC gamer I am worried primarily about two release dates which have evaded us thus far, which would be that of Torchlight2 and Guild Wars 2. Reading the Torchlight 2 Facebook wall had a hint to check out E3 regarding the game so there is a high likelihood that we will know whento expect the game by the end ofnext week. Guild Wars 2 I doubt we will be hearing anything new about, though it matters little as we will be playing some more of it next week anyhow. Most othergames of interest we have releasedates for (Dark Souls due out in August and Hitman: Absolution due out in November), however one big name game still goes unannounced (in terms of a release date) for the PC in particular, that being Resident Evil6. And after the flop that was Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, I know gamers are really looking forward to an actual partof the series.
