How to Chain Shiny Pokemon

Chaining is the art of encountering many of the same pokemon in a row using the pokeradar.

First of all, there are several things you need before starting. The things are:

Pokeradar

LOTS of max repels or super repels (at least 250)

A strong pokemon, or several, that can 1 hit KO the pokemon you are chaining.

Pokeballs ( to catch the shiny pokemon)

Now that you are ready with the basic things that you need, let’s get started.

Before chaining, always use a max or super repel and have a the strong pokemon in front of the party. Go to a big grassy area such as this one:

It is recommended to go to the center of it. When you use the pokeradar, you should see 1 – 4 patches of grass shake. There are 3 different types of patches:

Normal: These patches are the most common and only shake. This ones are easy to difference from the other ones.

Rare: Unlike the normal patch, this one shakes AND has some greeny white flecks on it. This patch doesn’t appear very often and indicates that there might be a rare pokemon of the area in it.

Shiny: This is the patch that you wanna see. It shakes and sparkles twice. This patch indicates that there is a shiny pokemon in it. This patch is also the rarest.

So you already used the pokeradar and entered a patch. Let’s say a Shinx appeared and you entered a normal patch. You can either catch it or faint it, but not run from it. Fainting it is more recommendable. After fainting it, the pokeradar will reset, meaning that 1 – 4 patches will shake again. Now it gets more difficult, because if you go into a randomly selected patch, chances are that your chain will end. You must ALWAYS try to enter the same type of patch you started the chain with, in this case, the normal patch. But not only that, you must also enter it if the patch is the furthest from you (4 steps away). The patches can be 1, 2, 3, or 4 steps away from you, not more further than that. A diagram of this should look like:

Confusing isn’t it? If the patch that you began the chain with is not the furthest, then you can reset the radar. You can reset the radar by walking 50 steps without going into a patch. You can put the poketch application #4 to count the steps. After walking 50 steps, the pokeradar will be charged and you can use it once again. It won’t break your chain, it will just reset the location and types of patches. Some things that you want to keep in mind are:

  1. NEVER use the bike while chaining, it breaks the chain.
  2. NEVER reset the radar at the edges of the grassy area, it has more chances of breaking the chain.
  3. Chains can break for no reason.
  4. If you feel uncomfortable with the location and types of patches that you got, try resetting the radar.
  5. NEVER enter patches of grass at the edges of the grassy area.
  6. Remember to use the repel each time it wears off.
