The Best MMORPGS
You might be asking, what is an MMORPG (MMORPGs for plural)? An MMORPG is a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. A Role playing game is a genre of computer games where you interact with a large number of people in an online virtual world. You might want to play MMORPGs for the social aspect, or the overall gameplay aspect. Some may be free to play while others you might have to pay for. In the end, it is all about your personal preference.
Introduction to MMORPGs
So to start it off, there are hundreds of MMORPGs on the internet right now, and hundreds that are being developed as we speak. Many MMORPGs have their own unique way to grab a gamer. One MMORPG may contain anime, another may have fighting, and others may have a very enjoyable gameplay. So here we go with the Best MMORPGs Of All Time.
5. Silkroad Online
Silkroad online is a very well known MMORPG where you wander an incredibly detailed land of warriors from all over the world. You can choose to be a healer, warrior, mage, or many more! You can also be many types of occupations like a merchant, hunter, or a thief. Merchants cross dangerous lands trying to sell their products at other cities. For beginners, this can make you a lot of money if you work hard and team up with other people. Thieves are the bad guys who try and steal all the loot that a merchant has. And the good guys, Hunters, try to stop these thieves. There are many other great events and battles you can participate at in Silkroad Online. Here are some pros and cons of Silkroad Online.
Pros:
- Many characters to choose from.
- Many classes to be.
- Great community.
- Awesome gameplay, including breathtaking skills, dangerous armors and weapons, and mounts that you can ride on.
- Various capes you can equip to show your type of “gang”.
- You get to choose your main class but also a sub class. So you can be a warrior, and a healer!
- Easy to locate monsters for a quest.
- Easy to find groups of players to team up with.
- Aggressive PvP (Player versus Player) system.
Cons:
- May be hard to understand/grasp for new MMORPG players (you may be called noobs).
- It starts to get hard to level up at higher levels, which can get boring for many types of players.
- Difficult to understand skill point system. (I recommend reading other guides to learn more about this)
In the end, Silkroad is a great all around MMORPG where you can enjoy many aspects of virtual game play.
4. Sword of the New World: Granada Espada
Sword of the New World is a rather unique MMORPG. It lets you explore one of the largest worlds out of all MMORPG’s and it has a unique character system where you can use up to 3 characters at once. Using different sections of your keyboard, you can active skills and actions for each character. I personally enjoy playing this game out of most MMORPGs because of this system. If you are never sure of what class or character type you want to be, this is the game for you!!!
Pros:
- As I said, the Multi Character System is incredible. Some people may be skeptical but it is very player friendly!
- A HUGE world to explore, with endless adventures.
- Many characters to choose from since you can be some of the NPC (non player characters) in the game. It is a little confusing but to break it down lets just say you can play as the game’s blacksmith or merchant!
- Many weapons, armors, stances, and skills to enjoy. You almost can’t go wrong with any character!
- At beginning levels of the game, the action is so intense!
- A nice system where you take materials you collect from monsters and make weapons and armors.
- Each class has their own very unique and important role in the three man party.
- Pro and experienced players offer their help to you.
- Join part in a guild and control different parts of the games world; from mountains to dungeons.
Cons:
- Very small community, hard to find people to team up with.
- The HUGE world may be a downfall for some gamers, it may just be too over whelming for some people.
- A lot of cool things that you need to pay using real life money. (Cash Shop)
- The leveling up can get repetitive if you are unsuccessful in finding quests or groups.
I highly recommend this game to people that haven’t tried this type of Multi Character Control gaming.
3. Atlantica Online
Atlantica Online is another one of those very unique MMORPGs that is well known for its turn based. Fighting system. You have a group of fighters that all have their own special purpose in battles. Atlantica Online is fairly new so we have not seen the full potential of this game yet.
Pros:
- Huge world similarly depicting many of Earth’s continents.
- You can travel around on different mounts.
- The turn based battle system brings a different thing to the gameplay that many gamers enjoy.
- Many weapons and armors to use in combat.
- Many different characters to obtain for battle.
- YOU can create your own unique formation for combat that you feel is the most effective.
- Extensive mentor/apprentice system where you can receive items and money immediately when you enter the game.
- Guilds can control towns, banks, cities, and other areas.
- Very fun PvP system.
- Easy to understand gameplay concepts.
- Very nifty auction system.
- You can choose many different characters as your main character, including warrior, spearman, archer, gunner, musician, and many more!
Cons:
- WARNING: This game takes up A LOT space as it is a large file.
- Big world may be intimidating.
- It almost seems like there are not that many skills to use.
- The increasing lag (due to low ping frequency). This occurs in out dated, slow computers.
- If you have the lag, then when you start a battle, you might not even be able to participate until the match is over; when you are dead.
If you have a lot of room in your computer to carry this large game file, I would definitely recommend downloading this game. The turn based action is very neat and easy to understand for new or even experienced gamers.
2. Trickster Online
Trickster Online is easily one of my favorite MMORPG’s of all time. It combines, an incredible community with outstanding gameplay that will keep you busy for months, even years. You can buy drills and excavate different terrains to discover items, weapons, and armors that can improve your character or help you complete quests. You can also level up weapons, buy incredible skills, and defeat enemies or friends that you have met online. This game combines beautiful 2D graphics with an outstanding game play set up.
Pros:
- An incredibly friendly community.
- Game Moderators are on constantly trying to improve game play and the GM’s also hold events twice a week.
- So many characters to choose from.
- YOU build your character your own unique way to defeat enemies that get in your way.
- You can upgrade equipment.
- Join guilds and participate in guild battles.
- Build a house and decorate it.
- PvP arena is INCREDIBLE.
- So many quests for leveling up and helping you get new weapons and equipment.
- The Drilling system lets you escape from battling and slaying monsters so you can relax by finding rare items.
- When you kill monsters you might get their card, which you can use in card battles against other users.
- They have an incredible ranking system where you can compare yourself with other players.
- Awesome teleport system.
- Interesting pet system.
Cons:
- There is A LOT of grinding (grinding means killing the same groups of monsters over and over again for hours to level up your character).
- If you want to be the best of the best, most pros use the item mall which you have to get real life money to purchase these things with.
- There isn’t really that many cons, nearly flawless.
Overall, i think Trickster Online is the greatest free MMORPG out there. It is a tough choice but there are other good MMORPG’s so I must put this WONDERFUL game at number 2 on my list.
1. World of Warcraft
And our number 1 game World of Warcraft! You may be saying, hey i have heard of this game before. You are right, you most likely have. This game is advertised almost everywhere you look; television, on the internet, or even in many magazines. This game is pay to play(P2P), but you definitely get what you pay for. You can purchase this game and the many expansions that have been recently released for this game at Best Buy, GameStop, and other game retailers in your area. After you purchase the disks to install the game, you have to pay $15 (US currency), to keep your account active. When your month expires you don’t have to start paying immediately, you can take a break or you can purchase another game card for another month of fast action combat and endless adventures.
Pros:
- Many classes, races, and jobs to choose from.
- Game content that can keep you busy and searching for new items for months.
- Very friendly and active community.
- Many mounts that you can ride, starting at level 30.
- You can do raids or instances which are dungeons where you fight bosses with a group of other players and unlock epic equipment and weapons.
- Join guilds and compete in PvP!
- Warsung Gulch match is an arena battle very similar to capture the flag where you kill enemies of the other faction (Alliance and Horde are the two factions).
- Millions of equipments from weapons to armors and many other useful items that can help increase your characters effectiveness in battle.
- Millions of quests.
- Thousands of skills for your characters to use and enjoy while killing other monsters/enemies.
- Huge map, made easily accessible by the extensive griffin system where you can fly to various parts of the world.
- Bring your faction to victory by trying to capture the enemy faction’s many cities.
- Unlock achievements that can keep you busy for years.
- Participate in dailies which are quests you can do once a day.
Cons:
- Obviously it is a con that you have to pay to play this wonderful game.
- Lag may be an issue for slow computers.
- It is so addicting that it can be un healthy putting hours and hours a day into this game.
World of Warcraft is the greatest pay to play game out there, and it could even be the GREATEST MMORPG ever. There are many arguments talking about this but WoW is definitely one of the top 5 best MMORPGs ever.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is your favorite MMORPG of all time?
A: I would have to say Trickster Online.
Q: How long have you been playing MMORPGs?
A: About 5 years.
Q: Why isn’t Maplestory here?
A: Personally, I have had too many groups of people talking about Maplestory’s poor community. And yes, i agree. There are too many bots and hacks. It is not worth making it on this list IMO.
Closing of MMORPG List
This was a list formulated by me from the years of experience I have had with these MMORPGs. To find the downloads for all these games, simply research them in any type of search engine. Create and account, download, and enjoy. I hope you found this list very effective to your MMORPG selection. But remember, take a break and be active; excessive gaming is very un healthy.

I vote for not jumping on the bandwagon. Thanks.
I really like this format of writing, but I’d have to disagree on some of those MMORPG’s, Shaiya isn’t on there, neither is lineage 2. But thats just my opinion. Otherwise, great work.
Hey hardhead, thanks for the suggestions i should look into that.
I disagree, Maple’s community can take a little getting used to, and once you find a decent guild you’re set, but since the revamp I have yet to see (or see complaints) about hackers/botters.
AzureEdge, thank you for your comment. I have not played Maplestory for a while so maybe i am wrong but i remember botters making me frustrated since i couldn’t out-level them. Maplestory is a good game when you find a guild. Some people don’t like the grind but thats preference. Again, thanks a lot for the opinions!
Runescape is the best in my opinon
I was going to put Runescape, but i am focusing on downloadable MMORPGs, many people classify Runescape as a Flash-Browser game. So i was contemplating it, i’ll tell you that.
Sorry that last post was supposed to be to littlekid137 not by him.
Thanks for that, great article.
TO has alot of bugs, and has a horrible lag time to log in *especially for slower computers.
i like the game but its not completly perfeckt xD
WoW sucks in comparison to the challenges of Everquest 1. LOTR is great game, and best graphics/music I have seen ever. Dungeon and Dragons is VERY good, but they can’t provide new content in timely fashion. I am very disappointed in WoW. Characters are VERY ugly, and its VERY HARD to find a prof progression raiding guild. The jist of this game is to get to 80 asap and THEN do the content.
