Welcome to Warhammer

I wanted to take a moment to let everyone know that I will be releasing multiple tiered reviews of Warhammer over the next few weeks. I plan to cover every aspect of the game via multiple installments.

Greetings everyone! I have recently purchased Warhammer Online (WAR), a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG) developed by Mythic Entertainment under an Electronic Arts and Games Workshop licensing agreement. I felt it proper to take a moment to let everyone know that I will be releasing multiple layers of reviews for Warhammer over the next few weeks. I plan to cover every aspect of the game via multiple installments. What that means is that I will review the races and classes in one article, the player versus player gameplay in another, so on and so forth. I plan to start out with early on impressions of classes, each individually.

Warhammer Online is a game made by Mythic. They were the heads behind the classic MMORPG Dark Age of Camelot (DAoC), which happened to be the first MMO I ever played. When I was sixteen I owned a Sega Dreamcast, and had yet to own a pc. While playing Quake 3 Arena online with some internet buddies on my Dreamcast, one of them mentioned a game called Dark Age of Camelot. The MMO idea was still a very fresh topic in the world of gaming, and I myself had never heard of a game like it before. A few games had come out before DAoC that were held in high regard (the two most popular being Ultima Online and EverQuest). I was excited to hear about this somewhat new genre of gaming, and when I got my first computer six months later I had to try it out.

I bought DAoC as soon as I got my computer. I played DAoC. I LOVED DAoC! It was and still is one of my favorite games of all time. Its strongest point was its Realm Vs. Realm combat, or RvR. There were three realms to choose from in the game, and each of them offered different classes, races and playstyles. My class of choice was the Bonedancer for the realm of Midgard. As you progressed through the game you would slowly be opened up to more and more RvR situations, which were areas that each of the three realms could battle one another for control of keeps and other fun things.

DAoC will always have a fond place in my heart, but I am afraid that it is very quickly dying out at this point. Warhammer Online was sought after by many old school DAoC fans as a replacement to one of the classic MMO’s in gaming history since it was made by the same developers and also sported the RvR combat that made DAoC so damn fun.

With that bit of background information given, I would like to say that WAR is a very good game. It is based on the popular table top board game Warhammer Fantasy. Warhammer Fantasy was the original version of Games Workshop’s other table top game Warhammer 40,000, which has also been translated into the video game world. I look forward to posting all of the great times I have in WAR and I hope that those of you who read these articles find them both interesting and informative.

Please feel free to leave any comments or requests that you’d like! I am open to suggestions and criticism, as always. Also, if you like it then click the button and let me know! Sheesh, what’s a guy gotta do around here to get some internet love?
