New World of Warcraft Expansion: Cataclysm

Here are the main changes / updates in the earth shattering new expansion, Cataclysm.

The next expansion, cataclysm, looks to be one of the coolest yet with new class combinations, hundreds of new quests, more dungeon and raid action, and 2 brand new races.

Two new races:

  •  
    • Worgen – Alliance – Once human, now cursed to live their lives as savage wolf-beasts.
    • Goblins – Horde – Once neutral traders, now allied, one again, with the horde.

New Character class combinations:

  •  
    • Horde
  • Orc – Mage
  • Undead – Hunter
  • Tauren – Paladin / Priest
  • Troll – Druid
  • Blood Elf – Warrior
  • Goblin – Death knight / Hunter / Mage / Priest / Rogue / Shaman / Warlock / Warrior
    • Alliance
  • Human – Hunter
  • Dwarf – Mage / Shaman
  • Night Elf – Mage
  • Gnome – Priest
  • Draenei – N/A
  • Worgen – Death knight / Hunter / Druid / Mage / Priest / Rogue / Warlock / Warrior

Level Cap increased to 85

  •  
    • Tap into new abilities and talents
    • New way to improve your character at the endgame – The path of the titans.

Guild Advancement System

  •  
    • Earn guild levels and guild achievements.
    • Bonus abilities for the guild (ex. mass resurrection) via guild leveling and a guild talent tree.

Changes to classic zones

  •  
    • Due to Deathwing’s eruption from the earth there are great changes all across the world including…
  • The barrens split into north and south barrens.
  • Desolace having water flow turning it into lush forests and plains.
  • Azshara, that giant annoying cliff is gone, and in its place is a major goblin city.
  • Every zone will be changed to some extent, a goal is making the world easier to get around in (new flight paths and new ways to access areas) as to avoid some of the long grueling walks to get quests done and create a smoother leveling path.

New PVP zone and Battlegrounds

  •  
    • New PVP zone – Tol Barad Island (new zone somewhat like wintergrasp) (likely to be instanced)
    • New RATED battlegrounds.

New secondary profession

  •  
    • Archaeology – Unearth artifacts and trade them in for rewards, one thing being unlocking what you need for the new endgame path of the titans system.

Flying Mounts in Azeroth!

  •  
    • You will be able to use flying mounts everywhere, say bye bye to those unreachable areas and invisible walls.

Completely new areas to explore

  •  
    • These new areas include Grim Batol, Uldum, and Vashj’ir.
    • Underwater content, sunken cities / underwater dungeons (great places to test the new underwater mounts.)

A few other changes

  •  
    • New leader in Orgrimmar, no longer wood and rope but now retrofitted with black steel.
    • Large zones, such as barrens, stranglethorn vale, and darkshore have new quest hubs to split the questing into closer areas. (yay! less running around)
    • Goblins changing the entire azshara zone into the shape of the horde symbol.

All this and more will allow the players to rediscover the world of warcraft, with new content and changes around every corner.
