The Seven Wonders of the World of Warcraft

This article touches on several in-game locations that offer some pleasant scenery or activities for adventure seekers, the seasoned warrior, or the beginner.

Looking for something fun to do in World of Warcraft? Grinding endless quests and running dungeons and raids that take several hours to complete gets a bit tedious at the end of the day. Here are some of the things you can enjoy doing, even if you don’t have time to run full instances and have a little fun and unwind. One thing you can do is visit some of Azeroth’s ‘World Wonders’ if you will.

The first stop on our list is the Stonewrought Dam1 located in Loch Modan. It is a huge structure that you can stand on and overlook the wetlands. There are several items and abilities in the game that give you a ‘float’ effect, making it a fun place to base jump off of. Look for the Parachute Cloak engineers make. The Mage’s Slow Fall works as well.

Next, take a trip to the Gurubashi Arena2. This is a large coliseum where you can take on contenders of either factions. Want to challenge your friend to a fight to the death instead of just a duel? This is the place to do it. You just have to be careful due to the amount of stealthed level 80’s lurking around, preying on unsuspecting lower levels. Also, participate in the treasure chest competition. It begins every three hours and can be quite the Battle Royale!

Perhaps you are a Dragon hunter, or maybe would just enjoy a peek at these huge beasts from a spectator’s point of view. You can visit the four Dragons of Nightmare3  from the Old World (Level 60 capped first release of the game) by visiting their lairs. You will find Lethon, Emeriss, Ysondre, and Taerar located in one of four locations. In the center of Duskwood, inside a large circular mountain range; the far top right of the map in Ashenvale; the far top right of the map in the Hinterlands located at the top of a large dragonshrine; and in Feralas on an island to your right as you enter it from its northern border. There are other dragons to visit as well. Azuregos roams the land in Azshara. He is able to be soloed with a level 77+ blood spec death knight if it is done just right. Onyxia is another of these dragons located in a cave in Duskwallow Marsh, and is featured in the raid instance Onyxia’s Lair.

In the middle of the Blasted Lands you will find a monolithic Dark Portal4that, with the release of the Burning Crusade Expansion, offers the gateway to Outlands (This expansion also allowed players to level from 60-70). Also, while in Outlands level 80 characters (Level cap was raised from 70-80 in Wrath of the Lich King expansion – it also allows players to enter new continent of Northrend) can seek bragging rights by soloing one of the many level 70+ elites that previous took groups of players to down. Look for Son of Gronn5roaming the plains of Nagrand and the Fel Reaver5 that shakes the land of Hellfire Pennisula.

For our number 6, you may enjoy traveling all over the World of Azeroth and coming across some familiar characters that have made some cameo appearances. At the base of one of the ramps leading to the lower city in Shattrath, you will find Adam Eternam, Oric Coe, and Battle-Tiger. I’m sure you can figure out which cartoon series they resemble. Also, type a /silly to tell jokes, and listen the male Human character’s version of the class Lord of the Rings movie idea. Aptly called ‘Ruler of the Bracelet’.

Finally, we look to the lands of Northrend. Check out Wintergrasp Fortress7and join in for the live active zone Battle of Wintergrasp and help lead your faction to victory! This fortress features walls that are able to be blasted down using the siege vehicles. You jump behind the wheel of and barrel into your opponents.

So, the next time you want to kill some time or just don’t have the time to do full dungeon and raid instances, venture to some of these locations and you might just find some adventure!
