Founder of the Sims and Spore Leaves Electronic Arts
Will Wright, the founder of the popular games The Sims and Spore, has announced that he leaves game company Electronic Arts. Wright is going to work for his own multimedia entertainment company.
Will Wright was co-founder of game company Maxis in 1989, and he invented Sim City there. A game that established the base for a lot of other simulation games. Electronic Arts took over Maxis in 1997. Wright brought the company a lot of success, by inventing and creating the popular game The Sims.
Two versions of the game have been made already (The Sims 1 and 2), together with a lot of expansion packets. A stunning amount of hundred million of games have been sold. The most recent successful game brought by Will Wright was Spore. Spore has never been as popular as The Sims though.
After twelve years of working for a boss, Wright finds it’s time to work for his own multimedia entertainment company. He created the small company ‘Stupid Fun Club’, where he will invent ideas about entertainment stuff such as games, movies and toys.
“The entertainment industry is currently going through a revolution. Stupid Fun Club will investigate new possibilities that result out of this revolution. We’ll invent new forms of entertainment for different platforms.” Wright is not going to leave Electronic Arts entirely though. Electronic Arts bought fifty percent of stocks from Stupid Fun Club.
