Guitar Hero vs Rock Band

was first released, it was a whole new way of playing a video game. With a guitar controller containing 5 colored fret buttons and a lever to “strum”, it was the most unique way to play a video game. The original Guitar Hero has since been followed by Guitar Hero 2, Guitar Hero Encore: Rock the 80’s, and Guitar Hero 3, which was just released a few months ago.

Guitar Hero’s new opposition is the latest game titled,
Rock Band. Not only do you get to play the guitar, but it also comes with drums and a microphone to expand your musical talent, as far as gaming goes anyway. Like Guitar Hero, you can buy the game with the guitar, drums and microphone all in one convenient set, for just around $200. Considering Guitar Hero with a guitar could cost as much as $80, for an extra $120, is Rock Band a better deal?

The big difference in these games seems to be the music. In Guitar Hero, many of the songs are covered while in Rock Band, many of the songs are originals. In Guitar Hero you are following the rhythm with the guitar, and in Rock Band, you do the same, only you have the choice of the guitar or drums. You also have the microphone option which adds a new challenge of matching the song word for word. It’s opening people’s eyes to music they never thought they’d listen to.

So the ultimate question is, Guitar Hero or Rock Band? I’ve played them both and they are both great games. I love the songs that are on the Guitar Hero soundtrack. There are many old school favorites that are fun to play. But, Rock Band gets my vote with the originality of the songs, and the three instrument option. When you beat the game with the guitar, you can move onto another instrument. It keeps you interested longer and provides a new challenge every time. So the answer for me is Rock Band.
