The Beatles: Rockband – Don’t Waste Your Money

Just another overhyped game…

There are some games that stir up an unbelievable amount of hype.  Madden is an annual ordeal.  Final Fantasy always raises quite the fuss.  Halo has nerds everywhere quivering for weeks before its arrival.  But the fuss over The Beatles: Rockband.  Being that my son and I both enjoy the guitar games, and I love my Beatles, it was a no brainer.

Well, for those of you who haven’t dropped the wad of money on this one, save yourself a few bucks.  News Flash…. It’s just another guitar game.  The same disappointment was here that was there for Guitar Hero: Metallica.  It’s really cool at first… playing ‘Fade  To Black’ the first time more than kicked ass.  But a few hours in it hits you that it’s the same game, different songs.  Same with this game, sadly.

There are a few ‘improvements’…. 3 part harmonies (but does anyone who plays this sound good enough that it matters?) , And the fact that you can play on different difficulties, but all in all, unless you’re either a hard core Beatles fan and hardcore Rockband fan, save yourself some money.  Rent it, get the novelty out of your system, wait till it’s 10 or 15 bucks at a used video game store, and get it then.  The cold hard truth of it is that beyond the music, it’s nothing special.  To the average part time gamer, this game is overrated.

In all fairness I would say this game will reach a lot of people that have never purchased a video game before and they will thoroughly enjoy it. Of course those people probably wont read reviews at gamer sites either so the hell with it your right.

“News Flash…. It’s just another guitar game.” So will be Call Of Duty – just another FPS. It’s always just “ANOTHER X GAME”. I don’t think you are to fair in your judgment.

believe it or not, video games are never going to transcend light entertainment and change anything in your world.

you’re expecting far too much bang for $60.

This game is unique among music games for its library of songs (which many think are some of the best in popular music,) and for its production value (which this writer, even when drawing a comparison between it and another band-centric music game, has failed to notice at all.)
These elements won’t have the same value to all players, and everyone is entitled to opinions based on their tastes, but this game is outstanding in its genre and does deserve credit for that fact.
If you are the type of gamer that doesn’t see a difference between the presentation of this game and, say, Guitar Hero Aerosmith or Metallica, then it won’t be worth your money.

I believe that you are right in what you say. It is just another video game. Different songs and different visuals but the same old routine like Rockband and Guitar Hero. Content may be different but we need to search for something that can played indefinitely and is always updating. Rock on for gaming of the future yo

    Agreed

Rock band is constently adding content, you can get just about every song ever made if you hook up your console to the internet.
Every game out now is fluid, if you’re willing to pay a little bit more for it,

I play guitar hero world tour and I am good enough to sing three part harmonies. In fact, I often have to control myself when singing because I want to sing the higher part. :(

A video game is more than just the game. Those of us who put a lot of emphasis on the artistic value of the game can draw a lot of enjoyment out of Beatles RB.
