Sims 3 to be Free of DRM

A response to the news that EA will not be using its much-loathed DRM in The Sims 3.

Victory!

We’re finally managed to stick it to ridiculous DRM protection. Now we have proof that people can make a difference against these stupid and draconian systems that support piracy rather than fight it.

“There is always going to be a level of protection for games and this solution [DRM free] is right for The Sims 3.

“How these things roll out in the future will be down to the developers and we will make announcements in due course.”

We’re going to need to press the advantage now that we have it, and ensure that games developers don’t resort to these BS solutions again in the near future. Buy legal and show your support for your favourite, DRM free games. The sims 3 is only the start, hopefully we can relocate this nasty little chapter of gaming to the history books once and for all.

DRM has already been weakened on the music front, with many legitimate services providing DRM Free files (sometimes at a slightly higher cost), now that videogames are set to follow suit, our right to use what we buy is slowly being returned to us. Where is the sense in only being able to install spore three times? Why is it that if I buy a song on CD I can’t copy it to my MP3 player (legally anyway)? It makes no sense, and by creating the uproar we have, these big companies are starting to buckle.

So keep it up people, push on with the fight, maybe there’s some hope for humanity left yet.

Now, if only we could keep developers from releasing games loaded with bugs…

Let’s hope what you say happens. I gave up on pc games a while ago, and this piece of news may bring me back from my consoles… maybe.
