2009 Ashes Series Review

A brief review of the 2009 Ashes.

2009 Ashes review

The ashes of 2009 ended yesterday with Australia losing and England reclaiming the ashes, the two teams seemed fairly even throughout the season and it came down to the final test match to decide it all.

England started off with a reasonable score and had a brilliant time knocking all the Australians wickets after Australia had made a hopeful start to their 1st innings. The bowling of Graham Swann and Stuart Broad took the most wickets and England went on to end the Aussie’s innings early whole they were still in the 100’s.

In England’s second innings they scored reasonably again and were extremely joyful as they went out to bowl once more. The Australians did so much better this time and had scored 80 – 0 at the end of the day.

The next day England were encouraged by two early wickets, but the smile faded slightly as an amazing partnership lifted Australia into the 250’s. The partnership seemed unbeatable until they got overconfident and both went out.

Two Australian batters were run out, one by Andrew Flintoff and a very accurate and good throw, and it was all downhill for the Aussies there. They were all out for around 300 and England came forth to re-take the ashes from their cricket rivals. It was a great day and it was especially special for Andrew Flintoff to win the ashes with his team on the day he quit.

A solemn farewell to Andrew Flintoff, the all rounder whom everyone regarded as a brilliant player, both bowling and batting. It’s hoped that young Stuart Broad will fill his shoes.

Another round of applause to Strauss who has been a brilliant captain and batter this series also. In fact the whole English cricket team deserve praise for their fantastic playing.

Notable as well are the amazing play from the Australians as well, especially Michael Clarke who has done superbly well throughout the series, they provided a very great challenge and I personally look forward to the next ashes series.

Ricky Ponting has not received very good press from the Australian media and for that I say: Give the guy a bloody break, he’s been amazing for you for god knows how long.
