Fun Card Games Guide: Big Two
Have you ever been bored with your brother, sister or any other of your relatives? If you don’t have a pack of cards handy with you, then maybe you should get one. Playing cards is a great way to enjoy yourself with other people. In this content page I will explain the rules, strategies and tips of Big 2.
Big Two is a card game that involves 2 – 4 people. The object of this game is to get rid of your cards as fast as possible. If you know how to play Poker, you will already half understand the game. In order to get rid of your cards faster than playing them one by one, you need to create special sets, which I will explain. There are also two ways of playing, the Chinese way and the Vietnamese way. I will explain everything mainly as the Chinese way.
Whoever has the three of diamond goes first. 2 is the highest card. you must play the three of diamonds on your first go. If you play with less than 4 people, you should deal four hands and only use two or three (otherwise it is obvious what the other players have). the play proceeds clockwise, and you must play your cards in the pattern of whoever has the three of diamonds, or was the last to play in the previous set. You can play your cards in the following ways:
- Singles
- Pairs
- Three of a kind
- Straight (5 card values in a row)
- Flush (All the same suit)
- Full house (Three of a kind and a pair)
- Four of a kind (Play this with another card)
- Straight Flush
- Royal Flush ( A K Q J 10 all same suit)
These are the card values. I will give an example of what I have explained so far.
E.g: There are 2 players. The dealer deals for hands, and two are set aside. Player 2 has the three of diamonds. Player 2 plays a pair, consisting of two 3’s including the three of diamonds. Player 1 plays a pair of 5’s. Player 2 then plays a pair of 10’s. Player 1 counters by playing a pair of Aces. Player 2 now has no pairs. He passes and now it is Player 1’s turn to choose any set and continue playing.
This is all the game is about. There is also a suit order (lowest left highest right) – Diamonds, clubs, Hearts, Spades. Therefore 2 of spades is the highest card in the game. If someone played a pair of 9’s, 9 club and 9 heart, it is possible to beat it using a pair of 9 spade and 9 diamond.
Tips:
- Make sure you group your cards into pairs, sets of 5, and singles
- Don’t order your cards for lowest to highest. If a experienced player see you playing a very high card, 3 from the right, he would know that you have 2 higher cards.
- DO NOT ACCIDENTALLY SHOW YOUR HAND TO SOMEONE ELSE!
Big Two is a simple game, like Gin Rummy, and will be extremely entertaining after you get the hang of it.
