Beastcat: Happy News Part Two

I found Laela was better already when I entered the house to check on her. She and Maudene were talking about how restless Sam was while we were gone and how he was a seaman through and through but stayed because he couldn’t leave her. This was something that Laela and I had made a deal about when we took back to the sea. She knew it was where I belonged at that time and it was what I loved, she wouldn’t take it from me.

After I was sure that she was okay and told he that I had to go meet up with an old friend, I left for the inn. I was a little surprised by who it had to be but only one person could have a sword like that one besides me. I had only made two and that meant something more was going on than just a minor refit.

Nathaniel met me as I neared the inn. “Good day Longfeather.” He smiled. “How was your trip?”

“Good.” I grinned taking his hand. “I am on my way to the in to meet someone if you care to join me.”

“No.” He laughed. “I think I have lost enough time talking to your friend and should go check my traps and see how the villages fairs. Perhaps another time.”

I nodded. “Well and good. How much did he tell you?”

“More than I’m sure you would like.” He continued to laugh. “Good day Longfeather.”

“Good day.” I said knowing what some of the stories could be.

I pushed on and entered the Inn as I pulled out one of the long thin cigars that I had taken too. I scanned the room as I lit the cigar in an open lamp. Most of the people in the room were locals but then I saw him in the far corner of the room.

His beard was trimmed better than the last time I had seen him and his hair was now close to gray-white but the shocks of red that was his birth hair color still hung at the side of his head. He looked far older than I had been expecting but I had to remember that he was only a Sadian and not the type that I am. He was reaching the last stretch of his life and it showed.
