How to Make Glass in Minecraft

1.  Firstly you’ll need a furnace, coal and sand to make glass.  A furnace can be made by filling all but the middle slot of your crafting table with cobblestone.  Coal can be found in the side of mountains or underground among cobblestone, and sand can be found near and under water.

2.  Now that you’ve got the resources you need, here comes the easy part:  Crafting the glass in a furnace.  Simply place coal in the bottom slot of your furnace and sand in the top one.  As the smelting process occurs the sand will turn into glass, and will be removable via the slot on the right.

Tips:

•You can use raw logs (wood) rather than coal if you wish.  However wood doesn’t last as long as glass, and it is often needed for crafting other objects.  Only use wood if your starting off in the game and there isn’t any coal available or you need the coal for other things.

•If your making a lot of glass, its best to use coal rather than wood as coal lasts longer.  You should also spread the load among several furnaces rather than one to get the job done quicker.

What to use glass for in Minecraft:

•Windows.  This is what glass in mainly used for in Minecraft, as it makes your home look and feel more realistic.  You can also see what time of day it is without having to go outside.

•Skylights.  These are handy for letting light into underground rooms either so you can grow plants there, for a novelty or so you can see what time of day it is.  Skylights have the potential to let in more light than windows, so they are handy in big rooms and plazas.

•Greenhouses.  All plants (except caucuses) in Minecraft need lots of light to grow, so it is ideal to have a greenhouse made entirely or mostly out of glass.  If you have a large greenhouse you can farm at night without having to worry about evil mobs killing you.
