How to Make Spawn’s Spiked Boots

A brief guide on how to make spiked boots much like on the character Spawn.

Here is how I made Spawn’s morphed spike boots on my 1/144 scale Slash Zaku Phantom.

Materials used

  1. 1 oz.  plastic shot cup
  2. Leg from same scale Blitz Gundam
  3. 2mm round plastic
  4. hobby grade putty

Determine the final angle of the boot depending on the final pose of your model kit. Here it will be on a standing but wide open stance.

Mask the desired angle and cut away carefully. The shot cup used here was very brittle. This will be remedied using hobby grade putty.

Measure the diameter of the leg where it will be inserted. I drilled a series of holes using 2mm drill bit. Then cut away much like connecting the dots. Notice how heavily cracked the cup is now. I used a different leg from another kit since it is more fitting to the type of modifications done.

I cracked the cup in half during the insertion of the leg. I remedied this using Tamiya plastic cement. Surprisingly, the cup material easily bonded. I then reinforced the connecting part of the leg and cup using scrap plastics and cement.

Covered the whole boot using hobby grade putty. Applied the striped patterns using a small file. Drilled holes for the spikes.

Color as needed.
