How to Put Mods Onto Minecraft!

Never knew how? I will teach you!

I love mods on Minecraft!  It took me 3 hours to figure it out so I will share my knowledge to you so it will be much easier!

*READ FIRST*  I am not responsible for any problems that occurs.  I can help you, but you cannot blame me.

Suggested Mods:

ModLoader by Risugami (needed for many mods to work)

Audio Mod by Risugami (needed for many mods to have sound)

Mo’s Creaures by Dr. Zhark (adds new creatures to the game, including rideable creatures like horses!)

^As of March 6, 2011, it has not been updated so do not use it until it is updated!^

Mob Spawner GUI by Risugami (change what spawns from mob spawners)

So I suggest when you download these mods, place it on your desktop.  To make it neater, make a folder with all your mods.

Step 1: Download 7zip.  This will be easier handling in a later step.

Step 2:  Go to run and type in: %appdata%.  You will find the minecraft folder here.  Right click on the folder and select move to desktop.  This will create a shortcut to .minecraft folder.

Step 3:  At this point I suggest you back up your whole .minecraft folder.  This is just in case somethign goes wrong.  Just to be safe :)

Step 4: Go open .minecraft folder and go open bin.  There you will see many different .jar files.  Right click and you can open it with 7zip.  You will see some class files and some folders.  This is what partly runs your game.

Step 5: Open up Mod Loader with either 7zip or WinRAR.  Select everything and drag it to the the opened minecraft.jar.  It will ask you if you want to move the selected files there.  Select yes. Delete a file in minecraft.jar called META-INF.  That file stops minecraft from working!

Step 6: So you now have Mod Loader!  Lets put audio mod!  Open up audio mod and do the exact same thing.  If Mod Loader or Audio mod has something that says to inject into resources then go to .minecraft and there is a folder called resources. Open it up and put the file in there.  It may be just be one folder called “mod”.  Now to test a mod.

Step 7:  Get your mod of your choice.  Make sure it is updated to Minecraft version.  Open it up and it is still the same steps.  Except, in the files there might be a folder already in minecraft.jar that the mod needs to be in there.  Open the sharing folder and inject the items there.  If you just select all of it and inject it to minecraft.jar, the files might just overright existing ones.

Step 8:  You should be set!  Open up minecraft and try logging in.  If it loads completely and doesnt freeze or crash, thats a good sign!  If you get a black sceen then that is bad and you may need to use your backup.  For Mo’s Creatures enter your world and you should be seeing some new creatures.  Then it worked and you can have fun with your new mods.  When you do this, you can put new mods quicker.  When Mods update, you need to back up your saves and redownload minecraft.  There may be other ways, but that is what I do when minecraft updates.

If you have any problems, email me at and I can help you better there.  You can look for video tutorials to be clear on anything.  Enjoy!
