Star Wars: The Old Republic Going Free-to-play

Silly Jedi.

Greetings, dear readers. I read today on VR Zone (source here) that Bioware’s vaunted Star Wars: The Old Republic might take a venture into the realm of free to play. Ha, World of Warcraft killer indeed. The lead designer of SWTOR was quoted that competition from free-to-play titles spurred this decision. Of course, there will be a microtransaction model, to help replace the dwindling subscription revenue. While I’m not a SWTOR player, I’m really against the pay-to-win model, and hope microtransactions stick only to cosmetic and quality-of-life affairs. I imagine the loyalty of Star Wars fans is a resource that would be hugely profitable to harness.
