Stats in Dragon Age: Origins (Xbox 360, PS3, Pc)

There may be an epic story and lots of fancy graphics on the top, but in the end Dragon Age comes down to stats.

You have six stats in Dragon Age: Origins, each relating to a different set of skills and attacks. Learning how to develop each one for the various characters in the game (particularly your Warden) is of the utmost importance, as you’ll otherwise allocate stat bonuses to the wrong categories upon levelup and probably weaken your character in the long run.

Strength: The main stat for front line fighters, particularly Warriors. Strength determines the power of your physical hits (unless you took the Lethality talent) and further determines the accuracy of your hits alongside dexterity. The higher your strength, the heavier the equipment you can wear.

Dexterity: Another important stat for front line fighters, dexterity determines the character’s accuracy with melee and ranged weapons. It also affects the damage modifier for archery, and increases the chances that a character will completely dodge attacks. Important for Rogues.

Willpower: Determines the amount of mana or stamina a character has. Willpower is important, but not as much as you’d think (particularly for martial fighters). If you have lots of Lyrium Potions you can get around boosting this stat too much.

Magic: Determines the power of your magic attacks. This is THE stat to boost as a Mage, often to the exclusion of everything else. Bolster this with the occasional willpower boost to greatly enhance your Mage. Martial classes should never bother with this stat.

Cunning: Determines the mental prowess of the character, allowing them to perform more adeptly during out-of-battle exchanges. Cunning is of great importance to diplomatic characters who prefer to negotiate, and can contribute to some Rogues in combat.

Constitution: Determines the hardiness of your character, increasing HP with each point and improving physical resistance. Constitution is important to every character, though it is vital to your tank.
