Television Review Doctor WHO Asylum of THE Daleks

WHEN dALEKS GO INSANE BE AFRAID.

DOCTOR WHO ASYLUM OF THE DALEKS

Spoiler Space

The return of the show’s most famous enemies and not just in their current incarnation. We see Daleks from every era of Dr Who from Hartnell’s time onwards.

The plot is odd and often makes little sense. Insane Daleks seem indistinguishable from sane ones at times. The Asylum has no apparent guards but some Daleks are chained up as too bonkers for most to cope with.

Rory and Amy go from near divorce to lovers again in a very short space of time. We see Amy’s mind disintegrate quickly without her bracelet but the Doctor seems barely affected.

Great touches involved the Dalek-ization of humans, corpses and inanimate objects, including the lighting filaments in the hairdressers where Amy is ‘acquired’.

The view of Scorched earth Skaro is great and so is the Dalek reaction that they have failed to kill the Doctor so often for finding his own evil a thing of beauty.

The real enigma is Oswin, a Dalek so far insane she thinks she is still human – it will make the Xmas special very interesting as the actress is returning then.

Not sure if liked the Dalek memory wipe idea – their bleating of Doctor Who was rather too much a repeat of the lines at the close of the Wedding Of River Song episode. Overall a good spisode though with genuine surprises. Loved the shift from eggs to exterminate. A planet sized asylum with no guards or medics to tend to the Daleks seems odd – who chained up the ones who are extremely uunstable too?
