The 90’s: An Epic Era of Gaming:
Time waits for no one, and gaming is just the same.
The 90’s: An Epic Era of Gaming:
The 90’s carried a lot of what we know so well today and nothing could compare to the world of gaming. Like a ticking clock it was constantly moving onwards into the forever elusive unknown factor of what might be next, but regardless it didn’t stop and kept on evolving into what we know today. It was the era where 2D finally shifted itself into a whole next dimensional realm of 3D, parent groups and co were ruining the greatness of many classic titles that carried the blood of maturity in its veins (Mortal Kombat, Grand Theft Auto and more), Sega still had a fighting chance to be competition, Charlie Brooker was still and unknown God among everyone (he’s a gamer, so it counts) and we were being introduced to an army of gaming icons (Sonic, Lara Croft, the whole cast of Mortal Kombat and more). The 90’s was a true breeding ground for a lot of what we know and love today, though we’re now left with very little to add onto that impressive list of achievement gained during those ten years of another century.
· Nintendo has pulled itself back into the market
· Sega has not pulled itself back into the market
· Sonic has fallen from grace and now sits on the steps waiting for his chance to climb back to be beside Mario and co
· Quick-Time events happened
· And the gamepad has evolved beyond simple buttons, d-pads and Analog stick controls. Motion control has final entered the gaming ground of control (Wiimote, PS3 Sixaxis control and Xbox 360’s: Project Natal).
So the list above is sort of impressive for certain achievements—ignoring certain failings of some companies, characters or gameplay ideas—a lot has changed, but against the huge leaps that the 90’s offered in term of gameplay, control (Analog sticks) or graphics (2D to 3D), the 21st century doesn’t seem to have much to offer beyond improving graphic or reworking old ideas into something….something! Only two things seem likely to make their mark for this era of gaming: the Nintendo Wii, Project Natal, Halo (?) and a few unsung moments that will be known by gamers for any known factor they contributed to the overall scheme of gaming in a not too distant future, sometime around next Sunday A.D.
Thought of the Day: November 2nd:
Enjoyed the day and took to writing a small piece—it’s already a thousand words and I already have something else in mind to its already strangeness I want to embedded into it. In the next few days of course.

Good stuff…
