The Decline of Call of Duty
Call Of Duty is an extremely successful series, but does not at all deserve it.
Then out came Call of Duty: World at War. They decided to go back to the WW2 setting for this one, but keeping the same successful style that Call of Duty 4 had. It wasn’t the best Call of Duty game I had played, but it sure was pretty fun. They did upgrade the multiplayer mode for sure, but I enjoyed Call of Duty 4’s multiplayer a lot more.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The next game on the block was due to be released soon. I was super excited, as Modern Warfare 1 was such a good game. When I bought it, I realized my mistake. Modern Warfare 2 is just a graphically upgraded, and slightly changed version of Call of Duty 4. The most disappointing game in the series, by far. The multiplayer was also awful because you don’t need skill to receive kills anymore, you just let the killstreaks get them for you. Killstreaks are definitely what ruined Call of Duty’s multiplayer mode. Single player was alright, but it wasn’t as good as Call of Duty 4’s even though it was much more cinematic.
Next on the chopping block is Call of Duty: Black Ops. I have to say, I loved this game’s single player to death, but the multiplayer was the same as the past three games and sucked. The game’s single player felt like you were playing a movie, and had tons of twists and turns that it kept you on edge for the entire game. An excellent single player game, but ruined because of it’s multiplayer.
Now, I refuse to play this game. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. I’m not going to play it, as the campaign looks like a rehashed version of Modern Warfare 2, and the multiplayer is EXACTLY THE SAME as the previous in the saga. Nope, never gonna play it, I’ve had enough.
Call of Duty used to be such a good series, but I guess every good thing has to leave eventually. Every new Call of Duty game is just the last game, with one new gun and a few tweaks to the looks of things. It’s so generic it’s awful. If I had one suggestion to Activision, I’d say to stop working on the games for 4 months and then releasing them every year. It’s ruining the series, and more and more players are starting to see how bad the Call of Duty games are.
