The New Guide for Theme Hospital
Despite being already more than 10 years old, this gamme is still a great challenge to anyone who dares to try it plus something that can make you laugh for a while in a way no other game can.
It doesn’t matter how long you have been playing this game, there is always something new to learn and you will only learn that if you play against the toughest conditions.
My Theme Hospital cannot save nor play sound so this means you will have to play from level one to the last all in just one try with no margin for errors. I just finished the game and now I am writing this for you.
One thing you need to be aware of is that you will probably not make it in the beginning, knowledge is probably the most valuable thing on Earth and it’s something you get only with a lot of good experience, trial and error. I tried this game this way about six or seven times before winning it. This experience showed me that all things are very temporary, you need to constantly adapt yourself to new environments and conditions and you also need to keep your eyes on the goal all the time. Doing things you do not like and having long time endurance for boring work is a must for ultimate success.
Now on the new guide
- Always build the number of GP office proportional to the other rooms you have. If you have on Psy Room, one Pharmacy and one Ward, build three GPs.
- Never build Toilets, benches or plants or fire extinguishers. They do not help you in anything.
- Things will change very fast, one second you are winning, the other second you are losing. So keep an eye on doctors and cash above all.
- Never build any clinics. They will only waste your money in early levels. Only the last level needs some clinics.
- Only get good doctors, the bad doctors will only send people away, wasting your money and reputation.
- Keep on expanding but not too far. True improvement is on performance not on size. A smaller hospital will perform much better than a bigger one. People and doctors will have to walk less.
- Things will never be perfect. You will never have good doctors or patients or money or condition but you just keep going and do your best.
- Once you beat one level just forget about it and focus on the next one and make sure you forget the old completely the new one is much more important now.
- All things seem to be against you and it’s in this time that you need to show the world (in this case the Theme Hospital) what you got. Keep always on calculating things to see if you are going to make it. If not, start to reducing costs and focusing on very short term actions, there are no long term goals and actions.
- Plan everything for the very short term, for the very next patient. You will not survive enough for the long run. You either lose or are invited to the next Hospital.
- If you lose just try again immediately with your new experience. Thanks to that loss you now know more things you did not know before that loss.
- You just need GPs, Pharmacies, Psy, Staff Room, Ward and nothing else. The game will run on auto pilot after that.
The last thing I must say is that perfection is beating the game now, not building the perfect hospital. Perfection is just winning no matter what.
Good work

Interesting article, How do you find the time to write and play(or research these games is beyond me)
To find time was easy. I was in Vila do Conde with my parents and my 11 year old cousin and he loved to play it.
To me, this guide makes no sense… now, maybe a guide for ‘what not to do’
No clinics? You’ve clearly never had bloaty heads.
The reputation and the money you lsoe sending clinic patients home is not big enough to lose the game. You can win just with normal treatments without any clinic.
