The Top Five Gaming Podcasts
Podcasts are one of the greatest free sources of entertainment. Here, I highlight five of the best podcasts related to video games and gaming culture. All of these podcasts can be downloaded through iTunes or on their respective websites.

5. RetroforceGO!
The official retro podcast of Destructoid.com, RetroforceGO! is an informal and hilarious look at retro gaming. Each weekly episode features a lot of reminiscing and wistful discussion on some of the greatest games from the last 25 years or so. The cast also reviews games on the Wii Virtual Console and the Xbox Live Arcade every week too. Jokes about sexual acts and other inappropriate things can be found throughout the whole show. That being said, if you like that kind of humour, you’ll probably love this podcast as well. The cast of RetroforceGO! know their stuff and I love hearing them talk about older games and systems. If you like classic games or just video gaming in general, RetroforceGO! is definitely worth a look.

4. CAGCast
Consistently funny, entertaining, and cheap, the CAGcast features two eccentric characters who make an excellent podcast together. It’s also the official podcast of CheapAssGamer.com, and each episode isn’t complete without a selection of game shopping news and hot deals. After listening a couple times, you really get to know the hosts quite well. Together, they make for some really interesting banter, and while the game talk can get a bit biased sometimes, it’s still really informative and entertaining too. They also like to involve listeners a lot, with almost weekly contests and information about what’s going on in the CheapAssGamer.com forums. If you’re interested in getting a good deal or having a quick laugh, give the CAGcast a try.

3. One Life Left
One Life Left is a variety radio show about video games, featuring music, news, and some interesting video game features and segments. It’s very fast paced, high-quality, and really interesting. If you’re put off by the off-topic nature or slower pace by some other podcasts, then One Life Left may be the podcast for you. The show is presented almost in the style of a news broadcast, although only one part of the show is related to news and they generally remain pretty unbiased and interesting. If you listen to a lot of actual radio and are looking for something similar but games-related, One Life Left is definitely worth a look. The cast has brilliant chemistry together and the show almost never drags on.

2. 1UP Yours
1UP Yours is what you’ll find in the dictionary when you look up “amazing podcast”. Just the fact that something like this won’t cost you a cent is amazing in itself. All in all, this is one of the best ways to get informed on gaming news, reviews, and general information about the games industry. The show is done kind of in a talk radio style, although it almost never gets boring and the cast is always really funny and enjoyable. Unlike many other podcasts, 1UP Yours provides somewhat of a look inside the industry; often featuring interviews and guest appearances with game developers or other industry professionals. Shows are almost always over 90 minutes and can sometimes reach two hours, but personally, I enjoy every second of it.

1. GFW Radio
Between 1UP Yours and GFW Radio, it was extremely difficult picking a number one video game podcast. However, GFW Radio is almost perfect in every way, shape, or form. At first, new listeners may be put off by some of the off-topic discussion and the general PC gaming focus, but after listening several times, even people who live by their console will still be able to appreciate the awesomeness that is GFW Radio. The cast all have really awesome personalities, and they do a really good job of picking fantastic guests as well. The humour is a bit selective and geeky, but some of the moments from this show will remain in your memory for a long time. GFW Radio is my favourite podcast and if you’re even one bit interested in PC games or just general gaming, it’s an absolute must-listen.
