Top 10 Best Hardcore Real Time Strategy Games of All Time
If you are an rts fan then I really suggest that you read this. But remember that it is in my opinion so don’t get pissed if you think that it’s wrong.
Homeworld
Nothing like an old classic real time strategy game. It features good combat and a unique storyline. Very fun to play with.
Civilization
Civilization is fun because of how you can just run your community with perfection. Enjoy building your own kingdom while destroying your enemies. It would be a lot better if the game improved the combat.
Dawn of war 2
Dawn of war 2 is the strangest real time strategy game I have ever seen. That is because the campaign is basicly an RPG you don`t do much except kill a boss or protect something and level up! But the multiplayer is probably one of the best out there. In fact the multiplayer is so good that it forgives the campaign.
Lord of Rings Battle for Middle Earth 2
What I love about the game is how it make the entire lord of ring story come to life. It lets you experience how it feels to live in the middle earth. It also has ok graphics with good combat and the privillage to mob your enemies.
End war
The best thing about the game is how the creators made used their imagination to make it seem like there has actually been that war. This game has an incredible storyline and will entertain you for a long time!
Age of empires
Age of empires is like civilization with better combat! Just what we needed! Creating an awesome kingdom while enjoying exiting combat. This game is definitly awesome!
Command and Conquer 3
This game is definitly awesome for people that like huge dramatised effects. This is one of the fewer games with untimate weapons that will obliterate anything. There is also a lot of cool units that will fit your playing style.
Warcraft 3
Warcraft 3 is just plain amazing. It has all the effects of world of warcraft while giving you a lot more freedom. The minigames are just so good that you can’t stop playing. I’m not kidding on that one!
Empire Total War
Empire total war is like playing very intense risk with a element of monopoly. You create massive fleets to conquer while you earn money to buy and upgrade more. Empire total war would be a lot better if the combat better.
I just can’t decide whether it’s dawn of war series (not dawn of war 2) or the company of heroes series.
Each of the series is just way to good. They both give you a lot of freedom and has excellent combat but doesn’t have as good of a base construction. Both allows you to get cover and kill the enemy in your style.
I think the only way to see which is better is to see how you like to play RTS’. If you enjoy a game based on gaining more territory while killing your opponents in fancy ways then it’s definitly company of heroes. If you enjoy just killing oponents in a variety of ways while trying your best to create attack forces that fit your style and a lot of freedom, then it’s dawn of war.

A couple of these games aren’t even RTS. Civilization is definitely turn-based with no RTS component. Total War, the majority of the game is turn-based, except for the battles. However, there is no resource gathering or building or recruitment in this mode. I definitely wouldn’t consider it as a whole a RTS game either.
