Video Game Reviews: Street Fighter Iv (Xbox 360)
One of Capcom’s most famous hits have returned, and it’s learned a few new tricks! The long awaited Street Fighter IV has finally been released in the earlier months of 2009.Street Fighter IV is a game whose title says it all. The game falls under the fighting genre of course, so all of you fighting game lovers pull out your wallets!
- Graphics
Street Fighter IV’s graphics have brought the game to a new level. The old fashioned 2D fighter game has finally gone 3D! But in an attempt to retain all of the original fans of the series, Capcom made the wise chioce to still make the game in a 2D fighting system. In other words, this game still plays like its older versions, but looks A LOT better and more realistic. - Controls
Street Fighter has always been a relatively simple game to play and control, and it has not swayed from its historical tradition yet. The game adds two new buttons which are not even necessary depending on how you decide to play the game. These two buttons would be LK+MK+HK and LP+MP+HP, which would be the equivalence of pressing either all three kick buttons (Light Kick, Medium Kick, and Heavy Kick) at the same time, and vise-versa for the punch buttons. Other than this small addition, the game does not change anything else as far as button configuration. - Gameplay
The gameplay in Street Fighter IV is fantastic! The game maintains a good portion of the popular characters of the series, and bring in some new characters alongside a total 9 unlockables. Street Fighter IV has two new systems called the Revenge Gauge and the EX Gauge. The Revenge Gauge is fueled by taking damage (hints to the name “Revenge”), and once it is either completely or past half-way full gives you the ability to unleash a nasty attack on your oponent with both the intentions and potential strength of turning a losing fight into a victory.
The EX Gauge is fueled by attacking and performing special attacks, and as it fills up gives you the ability to either perform an upgraded version of your regular special attacks, or use a completely filled gauge to do a “Super Combo” attack.
I would have to say that this game is well worth buying. However, if you have no intentions of playing it online against other players, you should probably rent the game first and decide later as to whether or not you are going to keep it. All in all still, Street Fighter IV gets 4 stars out of 5.
