Video Games Using New Technology to The Fullest?

Are video games using new technology to the fullest? Some are and some aren’t.

Ubisoft has been using a movie set to program their new game. Where you aware?

Earlier this year I happened to read an article on Ubisoft. They’re making a deal with another company, and using movie sets to make their game. Do you think this is a result of using the real world to make video games or it could have been perfected otherwise?

I get really freaked out when video games have perfect faces and dead eyes. It just looks strange to me. Like opening your closest and finding a zombie without a head staring at you. You’d shut that closet and never open it again if you know what I mean. You might even drop an atom bomb on the house and relocate to Mars.

Fortunately, the new NBA 2k10 game has no such problem. They’ve teamed up with Image Metrics to give us the best facial animations out there, even if the accuracy of faces takes a temporary nose dive.

Even more fortunatley, the gameplay seems to have taken the opposite of a nose dive.. whatever that is. NBA fans get updated facial expressions and gameplay.

My question to you is, which would you rather play? A game with great graphics and not so great facial animations, or a game with some questionable graphics and normal, non creepy normal facial animations?

The effort they go to for some of these big budget games is amazing – but then some of these games make heaps more than bug budget movies.

Those creepy computer faces – I think that is termed “uncanny valley”

As for your question, I tend to think the facial expressions are not of paramount importance to me. I love games where I can be immersed in the environment – whether that is something like KillZone 2 or Fallout 3.

They will get there though. I don’t think it will be that long before we wont be able to tell.
