Violent Video Games

Violent video games in general by the public are said to be a very dreadful thing, but they aren’t as bad as everyone thinks they are. While some children do learn from these so called “awful” things and they do mimic activities in these games they shouldn’t be considered a bad thing at all.

While some people do think it is appalling that game companies even make games such as Halo, Grand Theft Auto ect… It is solely the parents’ decision if whether or not their child can handle it. While so called “violent” video games are seen by the public as a bad thing they are actually do good things for people such as improve eyesight, and promotes happiness.

First of all, video games first person shooters especially increase vision. How is this so you ask? You see when you are playing first person shooters your eyes must focus on masses of objects. This helps you because when your brain gets these signals of cluttered of objects it adapts to that making your vision more precise when trying to find one object out of many. That kind of increase in our ability to pick put one object out of many is called our spatial resolution.

Not only are violent video games that are said to “rot our brains” increase our spatial resolution they also change the way of how are brain processes visual images. This makes vision much more precise and accurate.

When a group of university students were tested it said that their grade point averages were lower by .241 than average. Another point though was that you shouldn’t take away the students video games why? They didn’t take them away because more times than not video games promote happiness. So if they were to take the students video games away their grades would have been even lower because happiness is said to have a direct affect with how well we perform at tasks in work and school.

In saying this I still wonder why video games are considered to be a bad thing. Sex isn’t considered a “horrific” thing yet sex it self creates many problems. It creates teen pregnancies, STD’s, and sometimes marital problems, and even though it creates such ghastly problems it promotes happiness so people do it and the public doesn’t consider that bad. Why do they consider “violent” video games bad?

In conclusion, while violent video games are generally said to be a bad thing they are not as bad as everyone makes them out to be. Really most people who say they are horrible haven’t had an open mind about giving them a chance and playing the games themselves.

If people can make good grades such as B’s and above, while still playing video games they must not rot your brain.
