Where is The Magic Shield in Legend of Zelda?

This article is about the first quest in the original Legend Of Zelda game that was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It was also released on other handheld and home Nintendo consoles. The latest release was on the Nintendo Wii shop channel. It doesn’t matter which Zelda game you are playing, these tips are good for what ever console you are playing on.

In the original Legend Of Zelda game, Link starts out with a very small shield. You get virtually no protection from this shield. If an enemy throws a boomerang or another object at you, you will lose some of your life if you get hit. However, there is another shield in Zelda called the Magic Shield.

What is the Magic Shield in Zelda?

It is a much bigger shield that the first one you get, and it offers better protection throughout the game and dungeons. It is really a good idea to have this shield for the dungeons, so you can keep most of your life while you are playing. When an enemy throws an object at you, or attempts to hit you with their weapon, the Magic Shield will protect you most of the time from these attacks.

You can’t find the Magic Shield in Legend Of Zelda in any dungeon, you need to buy it from a shop. There are many shops in the game that sell the Magic Shield, however you want to buy the cheapest one. One of the shops in Hyrule sells the Magic Shield for just 90 rupees. Follow these directions to the shop.

From the very beginning of the game where you start, go west. Now go north one screen. Go west again one screen, and then north once again. Now move Link one screen to the east. Now in the top left hand corner you should see the edge of a lake, there should be some water there. You will also see a set of bushes toward the middle right hand side of the screen. Burn these bushes with your candle.

In one of the bushes is a secret set of stairs. Go inside of the stairs and the shop owner there will sell you a Magic Shield for 90 rupees. This is the cheapest Magic Shield that you can find anywhere in the Legend Of Zelda game. Now you are ready to easily face the dungeons for the rest of the game.

Here is a word of caution. Just because you bought the Magic Shield here for 90 rupees, doesn’t mean you will have it for the rest of the game. It is possible that you can lose the Magic Shield. One enemy in the game, that you will discover in the dungeons can eat your shield if they grab Link. The enemy that can do this are the Like Likes. They look like folding pancakes in the dungeons. If you’ve got a Magic Shield, avoid these enemies!
