Sega Genesis Review: Kick Boxing
A kickboxing game.
Ghostbusters (Sega Genesis/1990): One Star
After a lull in the city and a long absence of ghosts, the Ghostbusters had no work. But when an earthquake rocks the city, an army of ghosts wrecks havoc once again, invading the homes of the innocent. Dull colors, identical graphics, and some horrid backgrounds plague this game from being something attractive to look at. At least the characters are easy to make out, that’s the only saving grace in this department.
Captain America and The Avengers (Sega Genesis/1993): Two and a Half Stars
Captain America and the Avengers (Hawkeye, Iron Man, and Vision) set out to stop the Red Skull. You can play in single player or two player mode as Captain America, Iron Man, Hawkeye, or Vision. You will battle your way through different levels and environments as you pursue the evil Red Skull. You’ll come face-to-face with many familiar opponents such as Klaw, Whirlwind, The Living Laser, The Mandarin, Juggernaut, Wizard, Grim Reaper, Ultron, and Crossbones. You will also come into contact with cameos by other Avengers including Wonder Man, Quicksilver, Wasp, and Namor the Sub-Mariner.
Streets of Rage 3 (Sega Genesis/1994): Four and a Half Stars
Mr. X has returned again after being defeated twice. His new scheme is a research company called RoboCy Corp. which is a cover for his business activity. He has hired Dr. Dahm to help him engineer an army of realistic robots to replace city officials so that he can run the city at the hands of a remote control. In addition, his criminal syndicate has wired certain areas of the city to bomb as a diversion for the police.
Newcomer ally, Dr. Zan, has learned of Mr. X’s plans and contacts Axel and co. in an attempt to gather them up and stop the evil Mr. X once again.
Streets of Rage 2 (Sega Genesis/1992): Five Stars
One year later, the cop trio who defeated Mr. X and his crime syndicate – Axel Stone, Adam Hunter, and Blaze Fielding – have moved on since their vigilante crusade. Axel is a part time bodyguard while Blaze is a dance instructor. Adam is back with the police force and resides with his kid brother, Eddie “Skate” Hunter, in a small house.
One day, Skate calls up Axel once he finds his home in ruins and Adam missing. They soon come across a picture of Adam chained to a wall and kneeling before Mr. X, whose crime syndicate once again dawns upon the city and violence reigns once more although to far extreme levels.
Axel and Blaze reunite along with Adam’s brother, Skate, and Max Thunder – a professional wrestler and friend of Axel. Together, the four of them set out to rescue Adam and defeat Mr. X who now resides on a desolate island.
Streets of Rage (Sega Genesis/1990): Four Stars
A powerful criminal syndicate fully manages to take over a happy, peaceful, and productive city. Even the city’s government has been bought out by them. The streets are now rampant with random violence, destruction, shootings, murders, and looting. The city is no longer a safe place to live, day or night.
Robocop vs. The Terminator (Sega Genesis/1994): Five Stars
In the future, John Connor’s resistance is losing against Skynet. Connor learns that the cybernetics technology that was used to create RoboCop is responsible for Skynet and its takeover. John Connor sends one of his soldiers, Flo, back in time to destroy RoboCop, therefore preventing Skynet from being conceived. However, Skynet matches with Connor and sends back an army of terminators to stop Flo’s attempts in the present. RoboCop is now her only hope for survival as they engage in battle against OCP and the terminators.
Spiderman and Venom: Maximum Carnage (Sega Genesis/1994): Five Stars
The same alien symbiote responsible for transforming Eddie Brock into Venom finds its way to a deranged psychopathic killer known as Cletus Kasady, turning him into the evil Carnage whom then began his havoc-spree throughout New York City. He was captured and jailed at an insane asylum from which he soon escaped and, in the process, freed other superhuman inmates, forming a gang of murderers to continue his murderous trail throughout the city.
Robocop 3 (Sega Genesis/1992): Three Stars
Delta City is now becoming a reality as the evil OCP corporation begins throwing people out of their homes for construction of the new city. The only thing standing in there way is RoboCop – Part man, part cyborg, all cop. This is one of those games where you don’t have unlimited ammunition to work with as compared to most “RoboCop” games which have always provided that feature. There are some very cool weapons to use in this game though such as the flame thrower and laser gun. At one point, you’ve got ED-209 programmed to work with you and keeping you covered.
