– Plow a patch of fallow land
– Bring up the market when plowed land is clicked
– Bring up more options on Trees, Animals, Buildings. Etc.
-The Plow tool at the bottom will allow you to plow grass areas, which you will need to do to expand and plant more over time!
When beginning, you will receive a short intro – Anyway! However, i hope that this cleared some controls up.

Trees
Trees work similar to Animals, they need watering before thier cycle starts again and you can collect the fruit they bear. There is no initial growth time for the trees and can start right away (provided you water them!)
Many trees are locked until you expand your farm into the area they inhabit. I would suggest that this is to be used as collateral rather than seeking to be achieved, as there are other places (Such as to get the farmhouse, or silo) that are a better use of farm expansion space!
