Nintendo fans all over the world, feel the excitement and thrill of the new Animal Crossing game which has been released in the Nintendo 3DS console this year. The game has many new features and it has online capability, if you want to have this game for free please continue reading the review of this game. Nintendo’s Animal Crossing life sim series has been captivating players for over a decade and this adorable new handheld installment promises to be the most addictive yet. Will Animal Crossing: New Leaf totally and utterly consume your life like its predecessors, or has the magic worn off? Stock up on your prized turnips because we’ve fired up our Nintendo 3DS to find out.
The good – While most games task you with mercilessly destroying enemies or skillfully completing levels, Animal Crossing: New Leaf places no such roadblocks in your way. You can walk around at your leisure picking fruit, chatting with your animal neighbours or simply indulging in a spot of chilled-out fishing. The premise is that you’ve moved to a new town and are mistaken for the Mayor, and instead of listening to your pleas, the townspeople turn to you for guidance. You’re in charge of the growth and development of the tiny hamlet, and must build street furniture, decide on the town’s emblem and even pick the opening times of shops.
While this all sounds a bit demanding, it actually isn’t – you can tackle these mayoral challenges in your own time. The majority of the game is about finding ways to pass the time and make money, which you can then spend on new clothes, items for your home or even domestic improvements. The relationships you forge with the animal townsfolk are also important and amusing, thanks to the superbly-written script which is packed with in-jokes and witty dialogue.
Playing on your own is just one part of Animal Crossing: New Leaf’s appeal; you can also open up your town gates to friends, either locally or over the internet. When someone is visiting your town they can interact with everything, collect items or contribute to town improvements by donating money. Although the potential is there for a visitor to ruin your beautiful settlement by digging holes everywhere and stealing all your precious fruit and seashells, you’ll find that unlike other online games, Animal Crossing: New Leaf seems to bring out the very best in people, rather than the worst.
Because there’s effectively no end to the game – and thanks to an amazing amount of hidden content, much of which is time-specific and can only be accessed at certain points – Animal Crossing: New Leaf possesses an almost limitless appeal; this is a game you’ll be playing for months to come.
The Bad – Aside from the lack of action, there’s very little to be unhappy with here. If you’re limited to playing in the evenings you may find it annoying that all the shops are shut (the game uses a real-time clock), but as mayor you can alter this, so it’s not a massive issue.
The bottom line – Although many gaming experts are suggesting that mobile phones and tablets are the true social gaming tools, Animal Crossing: New Leaf proves that the 3DS is just as capable of bridging the gap between single-player and multiplayer. It’s the kind of game which is enjoyable when experienced solo, but really comes to life when shared with someone else – even if you’re just recounting how your town is developing, or talking about a secret item you found. There’s a childlike joy in Animal Crossing: New Leaf’s sedate and relaxing gameplay, as well as a universal appeal which transcends boundaries such as gender and age. This is not only one of the finest games of 2013, but one of the best 3DS titles yet seen.
